BACKGROUND
Joseph T.Riach established Algarve Golf Holidays in Faro in 2002 shortly after his arrival in Portugal. He continues to manage the business.
He also conducts Wake Up Personal Mentoring and Business Guidance Courses, runs Wake Up 2 Wealth Internet Marketing, is a qualified practicing Investment Consultant and has written a beginners guide to Equity Options Trading and a Success and Wealth Manual, both based on his own actual experience and 'inside' knowledge.
His writing also includes Business Plans, Publicity Literature, Sales and Website Scripts, plus Short Stories and Humourous, Satirical, Sporting and Topical Interest Articles for publication, often under the pen of 'Petrus'.

Tom, as he is known, was a seven handicap golfer while a member of the Caledonian Club at Aberdeen Links and played regularly in North East Alliance competitions. He was also a member of the Northern club at the same links, a founder member of Newmachar Golf Club and a country member at Murrayshall, Perth.

This news clip is self-explanatory! As an agent for Hill Samuel Investment Services I became one of the top earners in the UK industry and won many awards. At each of the international conventions mentioned I conducted work-shop seminars on my marketing and sales ideas and techniques. Later, in 1990, I established an East of Scotland agency for London & Manchester Assurance. I set up two offices, one in Aberdeen and one in Dundee and recruited, trained and operated a sales force of twenty-two. In 1992 Aegon Life bought out this agency from me and I continued to successfully represent them until 1996. During this time I twice passed the Chartered Insurance Institute Financial Planning Certificate qualification in Sales, Marketing, Pensions and Life Assurance and was an accredited Senior Advisor in subjects Corporate Investment, Offshore Investment, Corporate Pension Schemes and Taxation and Personal Investment and Protection.

Letter of Recognition, June 1989
This letter from the then Regional Director of Hill Samuel Investment Services, an arm of the respected merchant bank, bears testament to my prodigious sales production. As it states, my results demonstrated application and perseverance of a high order, in addition to which I also achieved a persistancy level of 98% - an exceptional figure in the industry at the time. In the work-shop and training seminars which I subsequently conducted for industry groups, an explanation of the ethics and methods I employed in achieving these results formed a central and much sought after theme.

Rio de Janeiro, 1987
Carnaval time in Rio de Janeiro! What an occasion, what a city! An amazing way to work - and play! During the time which I spent there I set up a temporary office from which I conducted a mail-shot campaign to all my clients and prospective clients in the U.K. This promoted the concept of an exotic lifestyle being achievable for anyone who truly wants it - as instanced by my own presence in Rio. This simple project directly generated a six figure sum in new business gross earnings for the companies which I ran at that time! Photo shows me keeping good company(!) ... and eating a streamer!

When I went to Manchester United in August 1963 (having chosen them over Arsenal), I fully expected to become a famous football star! The club lodging in which I stayed was in Stretford just behind Old Trafford. My landlady, Mrs.Wilde, built me up on raw eggs, endless pints of milk and steak every day and ensured that I was safely tucked up in bed by 10pm each night! My wage was a princely Six Pounds sterling per week and my immediate next door neighbour was George Best! (I cried the day he died in 2005). So almost the start of something big but my 'career' stuttered and spluttered until ended by injury in 1969. But not before a well-respected former international player once wrote of me, "Tom Riach is physical, skillful and clever. This was the finest display of centre-forward play I have seen at any level in twenty years." So that was something ... I did wear the shirt and I do have the memory! Financial Services and Investment, 1986 to 1990
Established and ran a Financial Services Sales and Investment Consultancy operation as National Business Loans, Aberdeen and as an exclusive agency of Hill Samuel Investment Services, London. In each of five consecutive years I was one of the leading six producers of new business in the entire UK industry and in 1989 the leading mortgage producer. I attained 'Top Achiever and International Conference Delegate' status. I was contracted to conduct workshop training seminars on Sales, Marketing and Technical aspects of Financial Service and Investment products for the staffs of a number of major companies. The innovative marketing plan I created is now industry standard practice.
Pre-School Nurseries, 1989 to 1996
Established and managed Cloud 9 Pre-School Nurseries, Aberdeen and Edinburgh which by 1994 employed thirty-four staff at six nurseries. I wrote a business plan for the development of a national chain which 'Investors In Industry' (3i) were keen to have me develop and for which they offered me rolling financing.
Financial Services and Investments, 1990 to 1996
Established and managed an East of Scotland agency for London & Manchester Assurance, Exeter. Recruited, trained and operated a sales team of 22. Aegon Life later bought out this agency from me and I continued to manage it for them.

* A contract with major national food manufacturer, Grampian Country Chickens, Banff consulting regarding staffing a new, multi-million pound factory complex.
* Appointment as the in-house contractor providing a range of personnel advisory and financial services to Tayside Regional Health Trust, Dundee.
* Retrieved back into the personal ownership of my clients their former firm which had been taken over by a hostile venture capital company (name with-held for legal reasons).
* Redundancy counselling contract to support and advise 600 redundant staff of Tayside Regional Health Trust, Dundee.
* Assimilated and prepared over two year period the entire legal proof in a substantial civil action lawsuit brought by (and won by) my client, P.W.Adamson, Aberdeen and Houston.
* Operational Contract Co-ordinator for the Ministry of Defence at Rosyth Royal Naval Dockyard at the time of privatisation and contracting out of internal services.
* Consultant Operations Contractor Co-ordinator for Debenhams plc in the run up to the opening of their Princes Street, Edinburgh store in 1981.
* As Operations Consultant for Pritchard Service Group, London I devised and operated the rescue of two major maintenance contracts (one with BAA involving three major airports, the other with the NCS supermarket, department store and retail chain).
* Additionally - Import and Sale Of Cosmetics (Kare Solem, Norway);
Design and Export of Whisky (Nick Kalyvis Trading, Athens);
Telephone Equipment Sales (Callstyle, Scotland);
Contract Maintenance (Premier Services, Scotland).
All work here-in referred to entailed extensive Planning, Marketing, Selling and Management. Also the Authorship of all material from the original Plans, Business Studies and submissions through to Marketing and Sales documents, in-house instructional manuals and reports.
