Algarve Wine

The Algarve is not one of Portugal's leading wine producing regions, that distinction belongs to the Douro Valley, Dao, Setubal and Alentejo.
But vines have been grown here for thousands of years, mostly in tiny farm vineyards and yielding a country wine for local and family consumption.

Today though there are an increasing number of commercial growers, the best known of which is Sir Cliff Richard, producing good quality Algarve wines.
Sir Cliff's Vida Nova label trades on his name although the grapes used in the wine do not come exclusively from his vineyard, nor is the wine produced there. Vida Nova combines grapes from three vineyards and the vinery is situated at another of the contributing vineyards, Quinta do Miradouro.

Other well established vineyards producing wines of increasing renown include Quinta dos Vales and Quinta do Frances; all three vineries mentioned entertain visitors.
